A Message From the School #6 Principal

Dear Parents/Students,

As the new principal of School 6 I would like to extend a warm welcome to a new school year!  I invite you to become involved in your child’s education throughout the school year. The School Six staff will continue to work to provide each child with a motivating and challenging academic program within a safe and supportive learning environment. Mrs. Kathleen Tortora, our school secretary, is available at 201-313-2360. School hours: 8:45-2:45.

Parents are important members of our school team. As your principal, you can expect that I will reach out to you and ask for your support, ideas, suggestions and involvement as we work together to create a positive and successful environment for our students. The valuable support we receive from our parents and the Cliffside Park community will ensure a successful school experience for our students. Our Parent Teacher Association (P.T.A.) has played a vital role in providing our children with special programs, class trips and school supplies throughout the year. Please support their efforts.

Listed below is the paperwork that will be distributed to students during the first week of school:

  • Emergency Form - must be completed and returned to school as soon as possible. In order to be contacted by “Swift Reach”, an automated telephone relay system, we must haveall current telephone numbers. Continue to update your information whenever necessary.
  • Student Handbook (included inside the student planner) – please read and discuss the contents with your child. A signature page that includes picture taking permission must be signed and returned to school.
  • Acceptable Use Policy for computer access (included inside the student planner) – please read and discuss the contents with your child. A signature page must be returned to school.
  • Lunch Eligibility Form – Return to school
  • School Insurance - do not return to school. Insurance is purchased directly through the company

During the first week of school, the students will receive two folders. The Student Handbook Folder should be used as a daily folder and contains the highlights of our student handbook. The complete handbook is located in the Student Planner that will be distributed during the first week of school. The second folder, entitled Thursday Folder, will be sent home each week on Thursday. This folder will contain student work, tests, quizzes and important information from the school. Please ask your child each week to see this folder. You will also be required to sign the folder to confirm that you have seen the contents. Please use the folder as a means to communicate with the classroom teacher.

This year, School Six will continue to offer the After School Program to our students. The after school program (2:45-5:00) is open to students in grades 1-6 and will include a one-hour homework session followed by fun activities that help your child learn and grow; offered for a monthly fee. Additional aftercare is available from 5:00-5:45 for an additional charge. Space is limited so please register as soon as possible. Further information is available on the district website at www.cliffsidepark.edu or by calling Mrs. Linda Ludwikowski, Afterschool Coordinator at 201-313-8158.

The cost of breakfast/lunch: breakfast - $1.50 and lunch - $2.50. Lunch procedures require you to deposit money into your child’s lunch account.

Once again, welcome back, and please mark your calendar to join us for Back to School Night on Thursday, September 22nd, to learn more about your child’s classroom program. I look forward to meeting you that evening.

Sincerely,

Christine Giancola, Principal
